2:02 am - i made a skirt

peachinprocess
i got a copy of from the library.

it's very simple and straightforward.

i didn't learn anything new, however, it was an excellent motivational read.

i made a 2 layered skirt with a black cotton underskirt and pretty red embroidered organza overskirt. it took about an hour. (yeah i was bad and didn't wash the fabric... i did finish all my seams though!)

and reminded me ohhh yeah! a-line skirts are simple and quick!
i wouldn't buy it, but i would definitely copy the page on doing zippers.

I've been experimenting with making piggy banks. And, uh, fishy banks I guess.

The bodies are thrown on a pottery wheel and the features added by hand.

I was in LA this past weekend, had a really great trip. I found a new yarn shop, not sure if we have talked about it here or not, but if you are in the area and you do things with yarn. check out A Mano Yarn Center, they are at 12808 Venice blvd in Mar vista. Vencie blvd at Beethoven.

they offer classes, the people who work there are friendly and they have a selection of yarns to rival the SF yarn shops. The website only has location and class list.

I was there sat and sunday and it seemed like a neat place to just hangout.

12:07 pm - lots and lots of needles

gmonkey42
I seem to be acquiring a whole lot of knitting needles and I was wondering if all knitters end up doing that. For example, I have about four pairs of regular metal needles in sizes 6-9, two pairs of bamboo size 10, because I needed three needles to do the twisty part of a cable knit and this past weekend I finally got around to buying a set of circular needles, which turned out to be too long for what I wanted (I should've asked someone in the store...) so later I also got four size 2 metal double pointed needles, to do gloves and socks and things. And now I'm thinking I'll get a bigger pair of double pointed needles for bulkier arm warmers & stuff. And now that I can make cylinders, I have a sudden 80s nostalgia urge to make pink leg warmers like I had when I was a kid.

So how many needles do you all have? Please say it's a zillion so I don't have to feel bad.

1:09 pm - fingerless gloves?

gmonkey42
I'm a beginner/intermediate knitter and I'm looking for a pattern for fingerless gloves. I want to make some out of that ribon-yarn stuff. I can increase and decrease and all that but I haven't done much besides scarves, hats and bags. I found one pattern but it was just text with no picture and I don't know what those gloves look like. So do you all know how to knit gloves? How hard is it?

1:40 pm - glass etching

stutefish
I got obsessed with the idea of etching glass, so I went out and got the scary super-powerful Armor Etch glass etching acid stuff, made some stencils on Contact paper and etched these two Cost Plus glasses as birthday gifts for my boyfriend. (Those are our cats.)

Petunia & Shrimp: the barware

It's easy and fast and everything is dandy as long as you don't get that scary super-powerful acid on your skin.

I found these two sites very helpful:

Martha, Martha, Martha

Craftster, of course!

9:42 am - Frogging, the Easy Way

I just found this Knitty archive article on frogging. Maybe you know how to frog, and maybe you don't. But this article on frogging was so clear and concise, with good pictures, that I thought I would share:
